Project 1 / This is the amazing dressing machine!

My machine is the amazing shirt putter on machine, its purpose is to help all those who are to lazy to put on their own shirts.

There are a few different ideas that really shaped how my machine was going to work. I wanted to make a Goldberg machine which was a complicated machine to do a simple task. The first idea was the pulley, I wanted to incorporate this because I also wanted to include a candle burning a rope of some kind. The candle burning the rope came out a bit better than I thought it was going to come out. The hardest part of these two ideas that I wanted to incorporate was the pulleys. Making the pulley system work with the ropes was incredibly hard to do. I had to use multiple compositions to get it to look like the ropes were moving. The candle burning the rope was pretty easy by the time I got to working on that part of the animation. The flames on the rope worked very well, I liked the use of the cartoon flames instead of going with real looking flames.

Project 2 / D-Day

World War Two is a period of time that I have always been interested in.

That is the reason why I chose to do an animated time line for one of the many turning points in the war. The animation I used was fairly simple but the process of getting all of the different photos was difficult. Also I really wanted to use photos from the actual period and to be able to animate certain aspects of the photos. Animating it all was very hard to do because of the amount of editing that was required for each photo used in the animation. The amount of editing is what really shocked me because of how much time it took for just one photo. The end was what really got me, I didnt really know how to finish it. But I did like the mention back to remember the veterans and people who fought in that war for our freedom.

Project 3 / Sweet Sweet Revenge

In this thrilling tale of revenge I had a very, very hard time coming up with this revenge tale. One thing that really helped me was when I was told to come up with the animation first then come up with the sound. This is what really got the ball rolling, I used stick figures because, I thought that they would be the easiest to work with. The sound all came from my own collection, except for the Price is Right Wrong buzzer sound at the end. This was the first project that I used illustrator as heavily as I did. Every scene and every character is made in Illustrator and imported into After Effects. I found it much easier then I thought to use illustrator I never really used it all that much. The chase scene was changed a few times, I wanted to do a omage to Scooby Doo by using the hallway chase scene but found it nearly impossible to get it the right way. So then I used the stairs and had some amazing chase music to add to it. The mooning scene, the buttocks in question is borat’s behind from the movie Borat. I wanted to use a real butt to get a shock laugh, so then I would at least get one laugh. The longest most tedious process was at the end with the spinning head. The spinning head is 11 versions of the same head and each is about a frame long. Then set right next to eachother on the time line to give the illusion that it is spinning around in a circle.

Project 4 / New and fresh...

This text project was very difficult for me to come up with ideas. I was pretty lost when I first started, didn't really know what to do and where to start. I know I wanted to present some sort of metaphor or some other meaning, instead of doing a project about nothing. I first started with using the thesaurus looking for like meaning words. During this process it hit me, I wanted to do something about new fresh love and all of the words that kind of go into it. This animation isn't overly complicated and is very straight forward, which doesnt bother me because I am a fan of minimalism. I found an interesting heart picture through google and then found a heart beat and tied their animation together. That is why the heart beat sound and picture beating match up perfectly. The words were easy to find and I used quite a few presets for the animation for each of them. Hopefully you enjoy this quick animation about new love.

Final Project / Arcade Flip Book Fun

This is arcade flip book fun. The title says everything about this animation just in the title. I used sprites from a few different games throughout the years. I tried to keep it as 8-bit as I could but the 3D Donkey Kong was just calling my name. This project was a blast to work on, it took the process that I have always used in the past for animation and I was able to use that in after effects. The process I used was piling each sprite intop of each other and save each frame as a seperate document. This was easily the most time consuming project that I have ever worked on, with the most repetative process ever. I have always enjoyed this flipbook style animation, even before computers it was the only animation that I used to do when I was a kid. This really brought me back to the flipbooks that I used to make in my notebooks.
