Project 1 / CSS Animations

The goal for this assignment was simply to become familiar with using CSS as a method of creating interactive animations. To clearly illustrate various animations that are activated by a person's interaction, I created a series of buttons that react to a mouse hover. Each button provides a smooth and unexpected transformation, signaling that it has been activated.

Project 2 / Singing in the Rain

This typographic animation is a playful take on a short phrase: 'Singing in the rain'. The letters of the phrase randomly emerge from the splashes of rain drops and bounce to their final destination, where their position is staggered similar to that of music notes. The word 'rain' is inferred by the descending of the initial rain drop at the end of the sentence.

Project 3 / Brighter.

The concept behind this animation is to show that when a group of people come together, they can make a greater impact than a sole individual. This accompanies a poster series created for an online system where citizens can voice their opinion about the issue in their community. The other titles are Loud/Louder, Strong/Stronger and Individual/Community.

Final Project / Activate Alexandria

Activate Alexandria is an online system that is designed to get Egyptians in Alexandria to actively participate in improving their local communities. Participants are prompted to submit any issues that affect their neighborhoods. The top 3 issues get put to a vote and the winning issue gets turned into a project that citizens help solve, by posting ideas for a solution and volunteering their time, efforts and resources. The site also provides a way for participants to track all the issues, votes and progress of the project.
